As a proud member, it is great to see the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) has joined the UK Lobbying Register (UKLR).
Increasing scrutiny by Parliament and the general public means lobbying groups must be seen to be acting with proper transparency. Being a member of the UKLR shows the BPCA is operating in accordance with a recognised code of conduct and is committed to lobbying in plain view and to the common good of the lobbying profession.
The UKLR is an independent body wholly owned by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). It represents any individual or organisation involved in lobbying the UK Government.
Commenting on the move by the BPCA, Cleankill Pest Control Managing Director Paul Bates said: “At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic it became very clear the authorities really did not understand the importance of professional pest control to this country. It was only when the country faced an existential threat to public health that our work had to be publicly recognised and, thankfully, lobbying by the BPCA helped to get pest control technicians quickly recognised as essential workers.
“As a company, Cleankill has always sought to dispel the idea that pest control is something shameful for a business or homeowner. Seeing a pest control van outside a business or home should be a sign that the people inside that the health and welfare of their staff and customers is being taken seriously.
“By joining the UKLR, BPCA is taking our industry to the next level. After the pandemic, it is clear our industry needs stronger representation in Whitehall and, by joining UKLR, we can be certain that that representation is being done the right way.”
