It’s two o'clock on a Friday afternoon and Cleankill Directors Paul, Jon, Clive and Ian are enjoying a cuppa after a busy week. Their peace is disturbed by the telephone ringing. Ian answers and is greeted by a distressed lady calling from a flat in Weybridge shouting: “come quickly please, I have got an infestation of crickets in my flat and I have a young baby….you must get here now!”. The four men looked at one another puzzled…crickets?
Now, the journey from Kenley to Weybridge is unpleasant at the best of times, but on a Friday…it’s a nightmare. So the intrepid pest control team decided it was only fair to toss a coin to decide who would take on the task. Paul lost. After an hour of traffic, noise and likely a bit of road rage, Paul found himself outside a luxurious block of flats.
He knocked on the door of a first-floor flat and was met by the anxious owner who said: “They are outside in the hoover!”.
Paul looked down at Henry who grinned back at him. He lifted the lid to be faced with hundreds of jumping bush crickets! A very shocked Paul quickly put some insecticidal dust in the Hoover and replaced the lid. Before Paul could take a breather, he suddenly heard a loud scream coming from the kitchen: “There’s a ******* snake!”. Paul ran into the kitchen just in time to see a red and white snake disappearing under the washing machine! Paul immediately rang the RSPCA who informed him they would be there in an hour. Paul took the opportunity to check the rest of the flat while he waited for them to arrive.
As Paul made his way around the flat, things became clear - there was very little furniture, some interesting-looking equipment and a wardrobe of various… uniforms. It slowly dawned on Paul what the flat was being used for. The other tenants of the posh block of flats had decided to take matters into their own hands by posting a snake and enough food (the crickets) through the letter box!
The RSPCA thankfully arrived quickly and Paul helped the two inspectors to safely catch the American Corn Snake which they then took away. Paul finished up and vacuumed up the remaining crickets…” So, how would you like paying?” asked the satisfied customer.
